Renault and Mercedes wants to put a protective shield around the Turbo loader (3-4 kg extra weight) and Ferrari thinks it is unnecessary. Next week there will be a meeting with FIA where Renault will show a film what happens when Turboloader explodes. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/forme...ng-8014244.html (This was reported last week)
Accoding to the regulations:
5.18.5 Measures must be taken to ensure that in the event of failure of the turbine wheel any resulting significant debris is contained within the car
It seems like Ferrari found a loophole and Mercedes and Renault are lobbying for more weight to be added to the car by making these shield compulsory.
According to La Gazzetta both Mercedes and Renault have asked the FIA for a clarification on Ferrari's shroud to ensure that it meets the regulation in case of a turbine explosion. Charlie Whiting will provide judgement on the matter.
