This year was better than last one, but I’m still far away from where I wanted to be. We’ve had five DNFs and of course we paid a lot of points from those, we had too many issues and mistakes. As a team, though, we’ve gone a long way from last year, we all want to get Ferrari back where it was some years ago and everybody is pushing for that. Our car has been pretty good everywhere so I don’t expect it to be different here in Abu Dhabi, it’s all about doing things correctly and then you’ll get the result. Hopefully we can have a strong last race: it would be nice to leave it like that. I have no regrets on anything, this year has been like that and next year we’ll start all over again. Hopefully we’ll be able to challenge on every race weekend, time will tell. We’ll see next year when we start testing. In 2016 we have to do a better job overall, we’ll start the new year from a clean sheet and we’ll go from there. It will be interesting.
quoteRaikkonen says he was "pretty average" in 2015
Kimi Raikkonen has described his 2015 season as "pretty average" after failing to match the performances of his Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel.
The Finn is currently fifth in the standings, one point behind Williams rival Valtteri Bottas, but 131 behind Vettel, who has scored three victories this year.
Vettel has also finished on the podium 13 times to Raikkonen's two.
"Pretty average, I must say," Raikkonen said when asked to sum up his season on Thursday in Abu Dhabi.
"Better than last year but still far away from what it should be. But that is life and next year we try again."
Raikkonen scored his best result of the season in Bahrain, where he finished second, although he reckons he has had stronger weekends throughout the year.
"The end result was probably the best but doesn't mean that it is somehow better than other weekends," he said. "The end result, it just looks good, but it has not been the easiest few years. But that is how it goes.
"We improve a lot from last year but still we are not happy. When I don't finish five races, however many we have done, you don't expect to be very high up.
"We have to improve and I am sure we can still improve it – a new challenge, and we will see. I am sure we can do better."
No promises
The 2007 world champion says there is no point in promising next year Ferrari will be fighting for the championship, despite having made significant progress this season.
"Like I said we are going to give our best and hopefully that is enough to fight for championships and keep improving - following our own way of doing the things we have done from last year to this year.
"Hopefully it is enough to be where we want to be as Ferrari.
"We can promise a lot of things but is it going to happen? I hope for all the guys there and Ferrari that we will come back strong, or stronger than last year.
"There is no point making promises. We will do our best and then we will see."
Mark Surer said in German Sky the Ferrari looks very good in the long runs and they are very good with the tyres. He has hope, that we see no Mercedes dominance this weekend
Kimi Raikkonen: “It was a normal Friday, everything worked apart from some difficulties with the Supersoft tires in the long run. Maybe the lap times could have been a bit better on the single lap, but overall it was not too bad. I haven’t seen the data from today yet, but it’s only Friday and we don’t know what the others were doing. Obviously there is always something that we can improve, the Mercedes seem to be very fast, but we’ll try to do as good as we can tomorrow. This is a nice place to finish the season, hopefully we can do well.”
